wings of paradise

Artistic Direction

A global art intervention drawing attention to devastating rainforest destruction at the hands of palm oil giants in Indonesia.

In 2018 a mass global street art intervention took place in multiple locations across the world.

I curated a series of artworks to insert a new, urgent perspective on rainforest destruction into the public realm. Each artwork contained iconic imagery that represents the beauty, biodiversity, and struggle to protect the Papuan paradise. Artistic interpretations of Papua and its rainforest emerged deep in the urban jungles of the world, connecting iconic urban landscapes with the struggle to turn the tide on deforestation and species extinction. The Birds of Paradise: displaced from their forest home into the urban environment, appeared as a messenger-symbol of the need to protect their home from deforestation.

The works convey a beautiful response to the devastating situation surrounding deforestation for palm oil in Indonesia. Many are permanent works, eye-catching to inspire awe and social-media sharing around the world. Use the hashtag #WingsofParadise to see the murals on Instagram.
